First Shower Victory & The Penguin Walk (74 Hours Post-Op)
Hey everyone,
Day 4 check-in coming at you! This’ll be a shorter update since honestly, not loads has changed from yesterday, but there are still a few wins worth celebrating. Sometimes it’s the little victories that keep you going during recovery, right?
The Great Shower Achievement
I Did It – And Survived!
The moment I’d been building up in my head for days finally happened – my first proper shower since surgery! And guess what? It was nowhere near as terrifying as I’d convinced myself it would be.
Kept it to about 5 minutes (didn’t want to push my luck), but I was able to actually clean myself and feel human again. The psychological boost from feeling properly clean after 74 hours? Absolutely massive. I’m definitely having another one later – now that I know it’s not going to be a disaster!
If you’re reading this and dreading your first post-surgery shower, trust me, the anxiety is way worse than the reality.
Sleep: Still a Work in Progress
Another Night of Musical Beds
Fell asleep around 9:20 PM – apparently my body is still firmly in “recovery mode” and calling the shots on bedtime. The inevitable wake-up call came at 1:30 AM thanks to our old friend, the nocturnal erection. Did the usual bathroom shuffle, got back into bed, and managed until 3:20 AM before giving up entirely.
Started my day properly, had some breakfast, and actually felt tired enough to go back for another hour of sleep later. My body is definitely the boss during this whole process… I’m just along for the ride!
Mobility Update: The Waddle Continues
744 Feet of Pure Adventure
Today’s big expedition was another walk down the street, I managed 744 feet, which honestly felt like I’d conquered Everest! Was definitely moving slower on the way back than when I started, and yes, I’m still perfecting what can only be described as the “circumcision penguin waddle.”
But you know what? Every step counts. These little walks aren’t just about getting out of the house and staying sane – they’re actually important for keeping the blood flowing and preventing any nasty clots from forming. Even if I do look completely ridiculous doing it!
Food Reality Check
Calorie Cutting Success (Kind Of)
Actually managed to cut back on my calorie intake today, which feels a bit depressing but is definitely necessary. Going from being a walking machine doing 18-20k steps daily to basically being a professional couch warmer means my body just doesn’t need the same fuel.
It’s only temporary – just for the couple of weeks while I’m in this weird limbo of barely moving – but it’s another reminder of how this surgery affects literally every part of your life. The sacrifices we make, eh?
Something’s Different Down There
Sensitivity Alert: Level Up!
Here’s something interesting – I’m definitely more sensitive down below today than I have been. Like, noticeably more. Turns out this actually makes sense because apparently peak swelling typically happens around days 3-4 post-surgery.
I think I’ve hit what all the medical stuff calls the “active healing stage.” This basically means I should expect some funky-looking changes around the incision site, maybe some yellowish film or wet-looking scab action. Sounds grim, but it’s apparently my body getting down to business and forming new tissue.
Good to know that feeling more sensitive right now is totally normal and not a sign that something’s going wrong.
Tomorrow’s Grand Plans
Nothing too ambitious planned for day 5:
- Another street walk (maybe I’ll even make it to 800 feet – living dangerously!)
- Definitely another shower (now that I’m a seasoned pro)
- Keep rolling with whatever my body throws at me
The key seems to be staying consistent with gentle movement while not pushing too hard during this crucial healing phase.
Day 4 Reality Check
Today’s Wins:
- Conquered the dreaded first shower (anti-climactic in the best way)
- Completed another walk without any drama
- Successfully ate less without feeling like I was starving
- Understanding that increased sensitivity is just part of the process
What I’m Learning:
- Most of my anxiety about recovery milestones is worse than the actual experience
- Peak swelling around day 3-4 is a real thing and brings changes
- Short walks are manageable but I definitely can’t rush them
- Sleep is still all over the place but that’s apparently normal
Tips for Anyone on Day 4:
- That first shower anxiety? It’s way scarier in your head
- Even tiny walks help prevent blood clots – every step matters
- Don’t underestimate how much your appetite needs to change when you’re not moving
- Increased sensitivity around this time is completely expected

Questions Always Welcome
As always, if you’re going through this journey or thinking about adult circumcision, drop me any questions you’ve got. These real-time updates seem to help people understand what they’re actually in for rather than just the clinical stuff you get from medical websites.
Every day brings small improvements and new insights into this whole process.
Catch you in the next update!
Dan
P.S. – Tomorrow I’m aiming for that 800-foot walk. Big dreams, I know!
