Hey everyone,
Here we are, day three post-surgery, and it feels surreal that it’s only been 48 hours since I was wheeled into that operating room. Time moves differently when you’re stuck at home counting the hours since your adult circumcision surgery!
The Good News First: No Painkillers Needed!
I’m actually pretty amazed that I haven’t reached for any pain medication yet. The discomfort is definitely still there, that constant awareness that something major has happened down below โ good thing that it’s manageable. I know everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but this gives me hope that my body is handling the adult circumcision recovery better than I feared.
The swelling is still very much present, which apparently is totally normal for this stage of healing after circumcision surgery and could last a couple of weeks.
Night Time Adventures (The Not-So-Fun Kind)
Sleep Disruption Central
Went to bed around 9:30 PM last night, but my body had other plans. Woke up several times throughout the night thanks to those infamous nocturnal erections that every adult circumcision guide warns you about.
Let me tell you… feeling that skin tightness when you’re half-asleep is genuinely uncomfortable. It’s not exactly painful, but it’s definitely a wake-up call (literally). Between that and the inevitable bathroom trips, proper sleep feels like a luxury right now.
Eventually gave up trying to sleep and just started my day early. Not like I had anywhere urgent to be!
The Calorie Conundrum
Here’s something they don’t mention in the adult circumcision recovery guides: what to do about your appetite when you go from super active to complete couch potato overnight.

I’m still eating like I’m doing my usual 18-20k steps per day, but reality check โ I’m basically doing zero steps. If I keep this up, I’ll be coming out of recovery with a proper beer belly, which defeats the point of getting healthy!
Mental note: time to adjust those portion sizes before my tracksuit bottoms get too tight for all the wrong reasons. ๐
The Great Shower Countdown
52 Hours Post-Surgery
The moment I’ve been both excited and nervous about is finally here โ my first proper shower since surgery! Planning to brave it around 4 PM, which will mark about 52 hours post-op.
I’m honestly a bit anxious about it. Will the water pressure be too much? How do I clean properly without disrupting anything? Will it hurt? So many questions, but the thought of feeling properly clean again is keeping me motivated.
Practical Stuff: Gauze and Protection
Still using gauze in my underwear, and it’s been a lifesaver. It serves two purposes:
- Protection: Stops the glans from rubbing against underwear fabric (trust me, the sensitivity is still intense)
- Cleanup: Catches any minor bleeding around the stitches, which is apparently normal
The swelling situation is still pretty dramatic. I’m expecting this to stick around for another 10-14 days based on everything I’ve read about adult circumcision healing timelines. Patience is definitely being tested here.
Mobility Update: Baby Steps
I can walk around the house okay now, which feels like progress. Still keeping those compression stockings on though – better to be safe than sorry when it comes to circulation during recovery.
It’s bizarre how cautious every movement still needs to be. What used to be automatic actions now require thought and planning.
The Hardest Part: Missing My Independence
You know what’s really getting to me? Going from 18-20k steps a day to virtually zero. I had no idea how much I relied on that daily movement, not just physically, but mentally. There’s something about being able to just go wherever you want, whenever you want, that you don’t appreciate until it’s taken away.
The independence loss is real. Right now, everything has to be planned around recovery, comfort levels, and proximity to facilities. It’s temporary, but it’s definitely a mental adjustment.

Looking Ahead
Day 3 feels like I’m settling into the reality of adult circumcision recovery. The initial shock is wearing off, and I’m finding a routine that works for this temporary new normal. Still early days, but there are definitely positive signs that healing is progressing as it should.
Next update will hopefully include the shower experience โ wish me luck!
Stay tuned for more real talk about adult circumcision recovery.
Until next time,
Dan
